TERRYANN - PLAIN & FANCY

Some of you may know that I have begun to work on a capsule wardrobe for women.   My designs are created to fit a variety of shapes. As of right now there are only five items in the line but more will be added once I have a more consistency in the manufacturing, creation and project process. Here are a few pictures and illustrations during the developmental stages of my designs. Once my samples get here, I’m going to want to meet with you and give you a peek at the work I’ve been doing. I have large swatches of beautiful fabrics they will be made in.  The item samples will be mainly in solids and the production in both solid and prints… I need people who are willing to consign my items in their shops (orders can also be taken). I will be looking for a photographers and models. I will be putting up a website for this line soon as photos get done. I am excited to be working with a small cut and sew in the Dallas Fort Worth area, all manufacturing will be done in the USA! Fabrics for my line will include textiles from all around the world including S Korea and Canada.
One of my sources for textiles is Telio, out of Canada, do a quick google search and you will find their website and information about the beautiful fabrics they make.  I am excited to begin sharing my ideas and designs with all of you.  Look for an online shop soon also.
Here is the link to my etsy shop where all my “fashion experimentation” is on display.
In the last few days I got this photo from Texas, the first cut from the production run of lace sleeves is done…

I am excited! This looks great!

Travel with family...

In the mid 1960's we crossed the USA and visited all sorts of attractions etc... Here is a classic photo of my family, my dad in the middle and my sister and I on both sides of him... in the background brightly washed out is the Grand Canyon.
I may have been frowning because of the bright light or envious of the unknown girl with her binoculars.
Here is another photo on that same day with mom.
We have a wonderful life.

I Phone Apps I like :)

Here is a short list of apps I like... don't feel like you have to have them all or that you need to buy the ones that are not free... I haven't found one that wasn't worth the small price however.

Social type apps;

Words with friends ~ a scrabble type app were you play with others and can communicate also ! I like to play with family, I'm not too good but it is helping me with my spelling. To connect ~ (leave a comment and I will send you the info about how to play with me)

Facebook ~ social interaction and information, I keep up with my daughters lives and they check in with me as well as share photos and info... about charities and other things I am interested in... (I am Terry Ann Skipper Wilson)

Instagram ~ I love taking photos and there are simple filters here to make little works of art, I keep up with friends I know in real life and get to see some inspiring work of my friends... (I am Terryanns)

EMOJI ~ these are those emoticons, the little smile faces and tiny cartoon drawings of items that add to your text and emails etc... it adds a second keyboard to your texting.

Work;

I have a stylist, since I have fat fingers and my nails are in the way of the keyboard, I use it to type when I need to do a lot of it. It also keeps me from making mistakes when I need to "select" things ... I miss-dialed too many times. Purchase one from the apple store, but you have to ask for it they don't want you to think you need it.

Any Dictionary app ~ I like Dictionary.com ~ look stuff up and has a voice that will give you pronunciation.

YP ~ Yellow Pages Mobile - works when other apps fail me to find things and has good phone numbers etc...

Smart Traveler ~ state department app for travel warnings and itineraries...

Microsoft TAG ~ Scans those tags, both the multi color and black and white blocks that connect to more information about places, events, items to purchase and people.

News;

Get your local news apps for local news info while you are away from home...

CNN ~ News of the world

BBC ~ British News of the World.

Finance:

Your Own Credit Card ~ to keep track of points, travel plans and charges

Your Own Bank~ to check your balances, and to deposit checks with a photo.

Other Stuff;

Pandora ~ a self controlled radio app, you choose an artist or a type of song and the app will play other songs in that same style... you can like or dislike each song and it responds by playing more things closer to your style...

Zippo Lighter ~ just a fun app that makes a flicker from an old style lighter.

Starwalk ~ once you learn the app, you can aim this toward the sky and it will label the stars and constellations... as you move it across the sky...it is a beautiful app.

Games;

It is difficult to tell someone else what games to get some are free, most of them cost a couple of $ up wards of 5 or 6 dollars... Here are a few that have made my eyes cross... from playing them so much...

Angry Birds

Chuzzle

and

Bookworm...

Enjoy!, I find my iphone so flexible and fun that I am willing to get stronger glasses to keep using it. My whole family now has one and even my mom loves hers and plays words with friends with me... It is an easy way to keep in contact with her without making a call.

E E E E E E E e e e e e e e

May 14, 2012… EEEEEEeeeee.
Today at class we became aware that there is only one more class!!! Yikes, the bank holiday last week and the busyness of the past couple of weeks … suddenly the pressure is on!

Our Photo shoot today was for Escada, especially perfume.  The current theme for their advertising is a garden hedge and roses, with the model sitting on the hedge and roses around the bottle etc…. I was determined not to do flowers.  The color of the liquid reminded me of pink champagne so I began to work on that idea.
Here is a sample of the result.

Royal Feathers ~ Reign Royal Insane!

April 30… Sunny Day Outside…
Reign Royal Insane ~ Inside, with a side of steam!

  Todays photo shoot was fun.  The “kids” were giggling and I was too at times. The model was a man and the challenge given by the teacher was to make something for him.  I made the hat, the bow tie and the gloves.  I used left over feathers from my “WEAR the wild things” shoot, and purchased blanks of the top hat, bow tie and cut off gloves from the costume shop.  I had to hand sew everything because I could not get time in the Lab.

     I explained to the model, the idea….he woke up on a tropical island and the natives had made him king, and feathers were the jewels in his crown.
      I tried for an intense Royal reign, with just a bit of insanity, boarding on anger, and silly poppy cock.  I hope it worked… here are a few of the photos...
 I think it was a success.

WEAR ~ The Wild Things !

April 23 ~~~ Another Rainy Day in London…
Hot Photo Shoot.
I enjoyed the challenge today and was way over prepared. I ended up not using several things I brought along, and used some things I wasn’t sure I wanted to use in the beginning.  I made the hat, stockings and the necklace.
 There were two challenges that pushed me today.  The first was the time limit, with only 20 minutes to work with the model there was no time to put on fake nails or use the wig… her hair is very fluffy and it would not have worked. Perhaps I will put it on the male model next week.  Secondly, the model was tired, all day of changing and trying to perform and portray what each student had asked of her.  I had a hard time getting any other face but “cute”. My theme was “animal instincts” and my idea was a kind of mysterious animal in the line of “Where the wild things are”, silly  somewhat frightening… I called it.
WEAR ~ The Wild Things.
There were about 38 shots taken and I believe I got 2 or 3 that are good…

Take a look at some of my favorites…what do you think, did it work?

Ok Which is better?

I as happily sitting and having a nice dinner with a cider ... the lighting at the restaurant was so nice, with flickering candles on each table and the window behind me and a nice dark wood table...
I was thinking of my styling project and I just dropped the ring right into the cider... of course the heavy ring went right down to the bottom and rested upside down on the bottom so no photo would work..... then I drank the cider.... here is the result.
I think my iphone takes pretty good photos... Now I don't know which will be my final choice.

Venice with a little photoshop fun.

A few years ago my husband, my daughter and I went on a trip to Venice Italy. There were so many lovely views that I took hundreds of photos! I took a photoshop class about a year and half ago... this is the combination of one of my photos and my newly discovered photoshop skills... I really like it and though I should share it.

My latest travels.... a photo that defines it.

This little bicycle stopped me right in my tracks and I had to take the picture! It started snowing again right after I took this, like a soft, cold, single, blessing.

The Brats of Etsy Feature ~ CreationsAnew

Military Brats of Etsy Announce our March ~ April 2008
Brats Featured Artist ~ ~ CreationsAnew !

http://creationsanew.etsy.com/

http://www.creations-anew.com/

Every few weeks we are featuring one of our members. This time we have selected CreationsAnew! To see photos of her and her work click the links between questions.

1~Tell us a bit about your self (name, location, affiliations, and personal stuff).
My name is Robin Hall and I’ll be 45 in April. I reside in Florence, which is in the middle Colorful Colorado, with my husband and 2 sons. Florence is known for their prisons, antique shops and Big Dog Football. I was born an “Army Brat” and then married a soldier, so the last 45 years has been spent traveling the world and being part of a special “community”. My husband retired from the ARMY 2 years ago and retirement has been a huge adjustment, but I think we are finally settling into it. We have two wonderful boys 19 and 17. My oldest in attending College in Lakewood, Colorado and the youngest is a junior at the local High School. I home schooled both boys from Kindergarten through High School and with them almost grown; I have found extra time on my hands. That is where Photography and ETSY has come in.

2~What is the first thing you can remember making by hand?
I’ve never been “crafty”, but I remember my grandmother and great-grandmother always creating things: knitting sweaters, crocheting baby blankets, (I still have those that were made for the boys), sewing, (they made their own patterns), quilting, (for my wedding my great-grandmother made a quilt with our names and our wedding date), jewelry, (I still have beads that my great grandmother used in an old hat box), cake decorating, (I did try my hand at that, but I would rather EAT the frosting), and oil painting. These two women were amazingly talented. My mother still has and wears a hat that my grandmother made with plastic “Wisk” bottles and yarn. With these two women helping I gave all of the above mentioned handmade things a try, but alas, I was young and immature and I never really took the time to become efficient with any of the crafts. Back then, I always felt those things were “old fashioned”; what I would give to know how to create those things now. I began to create cards and calendars with the purchase of my first computer. My first calendars were literally typing and printing words out, then cutting and pasting them onto computer generated calendars. I would take the calendars to a copy shop and have them photocopied onto colored paper…IKES! After buying my first digital camera, which was a Fugi 3.0 pixel, I was hooked on photography! There is something rewarding about taking a photo and being able to view it immediately. I think it was a natural progression to incorporate my love for creating on the computer with my love of photography.

3~ What are your favorite materials?

Camera and my feet. I really love to take photographs when I’m outside walking which good for photography not so great for exercising. We live in an old town with grand old homes, falling down barns, abandoned dirt roads and wide open spaces. It’s a wonderful area for taking photos. You do have to be careful when taking pictures of houses. For the most part people pretty much ignore me when I’m snapping pictures of their homes, but one time, I was taking a picture of an old gate in front of a home and this guy came running out and began screaming at me…“who are you“ and “why are you taking a picture of my house?????” That was scary!

4~ What are you working on right now?
I have a couple of things going on. I just recently added “FREE on-line Greeting Cards to my website. These on-line greeting cards feature some of my photography. I’m really enjoying creating card idea and adding photos to the site.

http://www.creations-anew.com/products364808.html

I’m also working on a 19 month jewel case, desktop Calendar featuring my photography. One will feature nature shots of Colorado and the other will feature Colorado Flowers. I’m hoping to have them out in the next couple of weeks. The dates are June 2008 - Dec 2009.5~ What have been the most valuable lessons learned from other artists on Etsy?I’m fairly new to etsy; I’ve been a member just under 6 months so I feel like I’m still learning. When I see a shop that is successful, I try to emulate what they are doing. For instance, how they promote, how their shop is set up, etc. I don’t copy verbatim, but if you want to succeed, study success. I find most shops are more than happy to offer tips and advice. I have a sign in my office that reads…“Are you afraid to fail or are you determined to succeed”! A lot of times I’m afraid to try because I don’t want to fail; I’ve learned from etsy artists that I won’t succeed unless I try.

6~Apart from creating things, what do you do?
I still home school our youngest son part-time; this is his last year of home school as next year he will be a full time senior. Our family is very active in our local church. We attend Lincoln Park Church of the Nazarene where I head up our Ladies Ministry and teach an adult Sunday School Class; right now we are studying Revelation. I also lead a home Bible Study where we are currently going through the book of Isaiah.

7~Read any good books lately?
I love to read the Bible, especially the Old Testament. Jane Austin is my favorite author with “Pride and Prejudice” being my favorite book/movie. Lately, I have read several books on Henry the 8th and his wives and I’ve been enjoying HBO’s, The Tudors.

8~In ten years I'd like to be...Healthy, Happy, and a grandma!

9~What has being a brat at Etsy meant to you?
Brats are a distinctive breed and I think we bring that uniqueness to etsy. Most “brats” are quick to form relationships and connect to a group; we learned that out of necessity. We are eager to welcome new people also a learned trait because we know how it feels to be a stranger. We are open to change and can quickly adapt. I see all these elements with this group: It feels like home!

So… Go see … Go visit her shop and come back here and share what things you like…
There is a lot to like!
