TERRYANN - PLAIN & FANCY

Some of you may know that I have begun to work on a capsule wardrobe for women.   My designs are created to fit a variety of shapes. As of right now there are only five items in the line but more will be added once I have a more consistency in the manufacturing, creation and project process. Here are a few pictures and illustrations during the developmental stages of my designs. Once my samples get here, I’m going to want to meet with you and give you a peek at the work I’ve been doing. I have large swatches of beautiful fabrics they will be made in.  The item samples will be mainly in solids and the production in both solid and prints… I need people who are willing to consign my items in their shops (orders can also be taken). I will be looking for a photographers and models. I will be putting up a website for this line soon as photos get done. I am excited to be working with a small cut and sew in the Dallas Fort Worth area, all manufacturing will be done in the USA! Fabrics for my line will include textiles from all around the world including S Korea and Canada.

One of my sources for textiles is Telio, out of Canada, do a quick google search and you will find their website and information about the beautiful fabrics they make.  I am excited to begin sharing my ideas and designs with all of you.  Look for an online shop soon also.

Almost a Hat!

May 17^th  ~~~  Nearing the end….

Oh dear, I am having a hard time realizing that this next class will be the last one!  I could keep on doing this … yep just keep on … I love sewing and talking and this class allows both.  We chat about our week and tell fantastic stories about things we hear or saw… and we keep sewing! 

I got a lot done this week even though again, I spent the entire class sewing four seams.  I seem to have a heavy hand with the thread and it shreds after a short time of sewing.  I think it is a combination of the delicate silk thread and my pulling to quick and hard on the stitch.  Here is a photo of my hat as I began today.

May 10  2012… Sew Sew Soooooo……

  Today I took up the entire class to sew three seams… by hand.  The thread kept shredding, with infuriating often-ness. Here are a couple of photos that show some of the progress and I have pinned up the bits to give an impression of what the hat will look like when finished.  Hopefully I will finish next class!

  Todays photo shoot was fun.  The “kids” were giggling and I was too at times. The model was a man and the challenge given by the teacher was to make something for him.  I made the hat, the bow tie and the gloves.  I used left over feathers from my “WEAR the wild things” shoot, and purchased blanks of the top hat, bow tie and cut off gloves from the costume shop.  I had to hand sew everything because I could not get time in the Lab.

     I explained to the model, the idea….he woke up on a tropical island and the natives had made him king, and feathers were the jewels in his crown.

      I tried for an intense Royal reign, with just a bit of insanity, boarding on anger, and silly poppy cock.  I hope it worked… here are a few of the photos...

 I think it was a success.

April 12, 2012, We got messy… yippee!  I got my fabric from the drycleaners and they did a wonderful job.  The fabric was unfolded and mostly pressed to a lovely smooth surface. 

     Prudence talked with us individually and I was taught how to wrap a wooden head called a block with stiff millinery canvas.  I cut a section on the bias and pinned into place while wet then blow dyed it to a stiff form.  I left it there at the studio (see photo) to await more work, next week.  I got a nasty blister on my ring finger from pushing all those pins in!

     I paid attention as she taught two other students how to use the gelatin to stiffen soft silk satin for flower petals, as I am going to do flowers also when I get the chance.  Another student dyed fabric to the color she wanted, see photo of her fingers that matched her camera.

Stockings for the troops ~ Sewathon 4! ~ we sewed 96!

Yesterday was a fun day! About a dozen ladies from my church, brought our sewing machines, irons, sissors and brains. We sewed almost 100 (96 to be exact) stockings for the Operation Shoebox organization. These photos are from the web site of last years delivery! Here are some we created that will be on their way soon.One of the cutest ones................♥

Mano Con Mano ~ We did a lot of Sewing! 90 + Baby Hats

We had another Sew~A~Thon ! This time we sewed fleece newborn hats for the Mano Con Mano mission to Guatimala. About 6 of us from the Womens Ministry of the Christian Life Center in Freeland Washington got together on a sunny fall day. At the end of the day we counted over 90! Keep warm and healthy little babies! AMEN!

This time I decided it wasn’t that bad, and I have noticed that other Etsians have listed Oops also. In fact there was a treasury devoted to Oops a few weeks ago and they were lovely.
This is an "Ooops" because the snaps were put on off center and attached slightly to one side... This is priced slightly lower than the others because of the Ooops. If it is not sold in one cycle on etsy it will not be renewed and I will carry it. It is really a beautiful fabric. Oh! I might get another for my own collection! It is really a beautiful fabric. If this Oops is calling your name you can buy it at my shop..

Postal Rate Changes ! You will like this!

Postal rate changes May 12th 2008… Regular stamp is now 42 cents…

The basic beginning priority charge of $4.60 will become ----$4.80 For under 2 pounds or for the flat rate envelope…*** To overcome this rate increase I will be changing my postage habits… and go with first class or parcel post for all items under 13 ounces.

1 ~ the bad news….

a-The first size flat rate box, the shirt box size and the shoe box size, will increase from $8.95 --à to $9.80 wow a big change

b-The larger size flat rate box, is 50% larger than the original Flat Rate Boxes, currently $12.95 will not change..? This seems like a typo to me; However, I will wait and see… so far so good.

2 ~ the Good News….

So I will be bringing down some of my postal charges! …. Yes while everyone else is raising the rates I am going with the cheaper First class or parcel post postage for many of my items. This requires me to do some extra work, and purchase new shipping boxes. I will continue to attempt to find and recycle good clean shipping boxes, however, to be sure I can ship all of the products in my shop I have purchased some great boxes from Uline. I had preferred priority shipping for several reasons, it came with free boxes for me, it allowed for quick delivery for all my customers, and it also came with a cheap (18cents) delivery confirmation… even thought it was more expensive to start with It was convenient for me and the quickest-economical way for my customers. If you prefer priority shipping I will send you an updated invoice to reflect the charges for that service.

The secondary charges will remain the same….. And I will purchase delivery confirmation for every shipped purchase that it is available for. As always, any time shipping/handling cost turns out to be considerably less than you paid (in excess of $3) I will refund those excess postal charges with a paypal refund right away.

I am certainly fed up with the increases every year, while the product delivered has not improved substantially. My understanding of increasing cost of doing business (labor and transportation) leads me to believe that they had no choice and they are allowed by law to revisit their pricing structure each year. So I began to think! think!... look search... and think some more.... soon I realized that my use of the priority shipping almost exclusively was hurting my choices and that of my customers. So here I go swimming against the tide!... and I hope this will help my customers decide to continue shopping and buying from me!Happy Etsy Shopping, Buying and Selling.

Update ~ ~ ~ Why I sew? ~~~ !

The whole reason I began to sew as a young girl was to be able to make things that were not available in the market. Many people think that sewing is an economical way to get clothing and home decoration. They are wrong. Sewing is a way to get what you want. It is expensive too, the machine is costly, the fabric, other supplies and the time! Sewing is a customized way to get exactly the right fabric, right color and right pattern you want. Custom is always more. I am the slightest bit creative, and I could always think up some design that wasn’t in the store. So once I got old enough to use a sewing machine I started sewing. First, just a sarong for Barbie, next was pillows and stuff for my room. My mom was an enthusiastic seamstress and she either sewed for me or helped me learn how to sew anything that was in my mind to make. As a teen I made a light weight jacket with a zipper down the front and slanted welt pockets that I was proud of. Besides the circle skirt and drawstring pants, there were numerous other projects that kept me busy with my hobby. When I was pregnant with my first I wanted a “Rainbow” theme nursery, not only was there nothing on the market, there wasn’t rainbow fabric in the fabric shops. What could I do…. Give up? Never, I found sheets with a big rainbow strip down the side. I bought several. From them I cut out the rainbow and made crib bumpers, curtains, lamp shade, switch cover, tissue box cover, rocking chair pad, changing pad and other little touches to complete the “Rainbow” nursery. Yes I was happy with that. It took time and effort and some money, but, I got what I wanted for my baby and for me. She is 25 now and my second is 17 I am finding I have more time to sew for myself and what do I want to do? I want to sew for complete strangers and hope they will like it enough to buy it on line.

September 14, 2007 Red Car = Freedom ~ What happened last Fall !

This little Red Car equals freedom for me and my teen daughter. Here is how...
At the beginning of the summer my daughter was feeling low, her boyfriend broke up with her, she had a lousy 'pizza place' job and was still driving only with her 'learners' permit. That learners permit means mom has to go with her everywhere or she has to walk 1/2 mile to the bus stop and hope it is on time and will get her there. So we got organized, we looked for a better job, and God Blessed, us she got two! One job was in an office for day part time and another one at a really nice restaurant 5 days a week for night (nice tips!). She worked all summer, night and day, she got tired, and mom got tired of driving with her everywhere. However, she did it! Mom did to. A bit over a week ago, she passed the state driving test! Whooho! And we began looking for a car. At first we were thinking "get a bomb" just a cheep thing to run around in, cheap insurance, something like a really old Honda, or VW. Then we saw this thing, standing out like a red button in a sea of white and gray. It was at a dealer, too much for us, we looked anyway, it was a used car. Mom (me) drove it, it was cool! But it was too much by almost $3,000. Oh well keep looking, and send a "thank you for letting us drive it" email to the nice salesman. A couple of days later... "Good news, we brought the price down". Wow! Now she has it! And now she can drive herself, mom can relax and have her own schedule. FREEDOM! for mom and teen daughter. She is so much happier now, work has it's rewards! God is so Good! Thank You Thank You...
